In 1990, AmeriCaption, Inc., began providing realtime captioning for commercial broadcast television, government access television, public broadcast stations, and conventions, and providing CART services for small and large groups for the deaf and hard of hearing. AmeriCaption has a pool of qualified and experienced CART reporters and realtime captioning associates.
Jack A. Boenau, RMR, CRR, CBC, CCP, FAPR, President
Founder and President of AmeriCaption, Inc., Jack Boenau is a member of the National Court Reporters Association, the Florida Court Reporters Association, Self-Help for Hard of Hearing, and the Florida Association of the Deaf. He has worked in Court Reporting and Convention Reporting since 1969 and was a pioneer in providing CART and Closed Captioning services since the late 1980s. Jack was the recipient of the Emily Mann Distinguished Service Award and the state and national Pro Bono Awards in the early 1990s. He has also been a guest speaker at various state and national conferences. Jack served on the NCRA committee for new and expanding markets in 1992 and 1993 which looked into the new markets that realtime reporting would take. Jack was chair of the NCRA C.A.R.T. task force 1996 -1997. During his tenure as chair, the committee redefined the acronym C.A.R.T. to mean Communication Access Realtime Translation. Jack was also instrumental in the initial development of a self-help support group of C.A.R.T. reporters, becoming a founding member of CARTWheel, which would become a network of CART providers and consumers. Jack is a Fellow of the Academy of Professional Reporters, which is a professional distinction conferred upon a person of outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in the field of shorthand reporting.
Deanna C. Boenau, RMR, RDR, CRR, CBC, CCP, Vice-President
Deanna Boenau is also a member of the National Court Reporters Association, the Florida Court Reporters Association, Self-Help for Hard of Hearing, and the Florida Association of the Deaf. She began her career in court reporting as a freelance court reporter in 1992 and then moved into realtime captioning, CART, and convention reporting in 1995. Deanna is a National Speed Contest qualifier, testing her skills up to 280 words per minute. Deanna has also placed Second in the National Realtime Competition in 2001, Third in 2002, and Third in 2004. Deanna won the 2005 Pennsylvania Cup for Realtime and the 2005 Florida Cup for Realtime. Deanna received the FCRA Pro Bono award in 2004 for services she provided to various deaf and hard of hearing organizations. Deanna is a Registered Diplomate Reporter, which is the highest level of certification available to court reporters.
