Court Reporting
Jack Boenau has been reporting since 1969 when he graduated from the Stenotype Institute of Jacksonville, and worked as a convention reporter with his mentor, Thyra D. Ellis, until taking a position as a deputy official reporter with Frank Sarli's Accurate Court Reporters in Orlando. He earned his NSRA (now NCRA) Certificate of Proficiency and the Florida Certified Shorthand Reporter designations in 1969, and the NSRA Certificate of Merit in 1973.
Jack became an Official Court Reporter in Iowa and earned Iowa's Certified Shorthand Reporter designation in 1976, and the Iowa Award of Shorthand Excellence Awards in 1980, 1983, 1984, and was president of the Iowa Shorthand Reporters Association in 1980-81.
Returning to Florida, he became a partner and president in a Sarasota court reporting firm, then in 1990 incorporated AmeriCaption, Inc., where he provided pro bono services for the hearing-impaired community. He received the FCRA Distinguished Service Award in 1991 and the FCRA and NCRA Pro Bono Awards in 1993, and was named a Sarasota County Vocational Institute "Outstanding School Volunteer" for 1994-95.
Dee Boenau received her Associate of Arts degree from the University of Florida before attending court reporting school in Pinellas County, Florida. She worked as a freelance court reporter in St. Petersburg and Tampa, Florida, then Erie, Pennsylvania, before returning to Tampa to begin her realtime captioning career in 1995. Dee Boenau is a Florida Professional Reporter, a designation conferred upon her by the Florida Court Reporters Association.
